Environmental science lab for Coolangatta

< Previous Next >

May, 2007

A $2 MILLION research and development facility will be built in Coolangatta to measure carbon emissions and design new technology to reduce the carbon footprint left by industry.

A specialist group of international scientists based in Brisbane have been quietly servicing Australia's leading organisations and government bodies regarding their emissions analysis and planning. The group has also been engaged in writing governing policy and providing expert witness and assistance to the biggest environment projects and cases in the country.

The company is expanding with the formation of a new company, Pacific Envrionment Limited. For more than 10 years, Pacific Air & Environment has been measuring, analysing and reporting the emissions for companies ranging from Rio Tinto to Caltex, BHP Billiton, the NSW government and many more.

Three years ago, the company started developing its own technology to service its myriad of clients both nationally and internationally.

The first product out of its enviro-tech development lab is AirXpert, a system that can be installed within mines, manufacturing plants and alike to measure the emissions from multiple sources, analyse the data and deliver live data of current emissions and their impact on the surrounding environment.

The product is also exported to the US and Barcelona.

"Something that has previously taken months to compile and analyse will now be available within minutes to companies that have AirXpert installed within their facilities," says Pacific Environment Limited CEO, Geoff Masters.

"The new research and development centre on the Gold Coast will allow us to create products that we can bring to the market. We are biting off bits that we can chew and making it practical."

The centre is expected to turn over around $5 million in its first year of operation.
