Corporate tourism pitched to Asia

< Previous Next >

Nov, 2007
THE Gold Coast’s burgeoning conference market is expected to be bolstered by a trade forum in Macau in March next year.
Tourism delegates will target Asia for the lucrative corporate meetings and incentives market, and the forum will showcase Australia as a business events destination.
Tourism Australia managing director, Geoff Buckley, says the excursion follows a series of business event trade marketing activities held in Taiwan, Korea and Singapore this year.
“This trade event will put Australian operators including venues, hotels, attractions, airlines and other suppliers, in front of buyers, agents and planners from the fast growing Asian markets,” he says.
“It is our most important trade event for securing future business events from Asia, and is fully backed by our convention bureaux partners.”
About 60 industry operators, including up to 13 Australian convention bureaux, will meet with 120 travel agents and corporate meeting and incentive planners from 12 countries for one-on-one business appointments.
“Our message to agents and buyers is that Australia is a great place to re-energise their clients’ business, whether it is holding a meeting in our world-class facilities, or rewarding employees with experiences that capture our unique environment and lifestyle,” says Buckley.
International business travellers generated $1.7 billion in Australia last year, with the corporate incentive visitors to Australia spending about $375 per day – four times more than the $92 per day average for all visitors to Australia.

Wheatley faces the music September 16

AS part of its popular business luncheon series, Gold Coast Business News will present high-profile Australian artist manager and entertainment industry executive Glenn Wheatley.

No stranger to controversy, as one of Australia’s best known music promoters and talent agents, Wheatley has been involved in every aspect of the music industry in his lengthy career.

For more than four decades Glenn Wheatley has been known on the Australian music scene as both the bass guitarist of the 1960s Australian pop group The Masters Apprentices, and more prominently as a successful music manager whose clients have included John Farnham, The Little River Band and Delta Goodrem.

But in 2005, he hit the front pages for more infamous exploits—as a key suspect in the Australian Tax Office’s Project Wickenby.

After raids on his home and a gruelling court case in which the DPP reneged on a non-custodial sentence in return for his co-operation, Glenn Wheatley found himself sentenced to 15 months’ jail.

The experience has only made him stronger and now Wheatley is back the game and ready to face the music.

This is your opportunity to get a rare insight into one of Australia’s leading music promoters.

Taking place on September 16 at RACV Royal Pines Resort.
