Wildlife hospital green lit

< Previous Next >

Jul, 2007

CURRUMBIN Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking a joint venture partner to help it build a new $1.5 million animal hospital following a green light for the project from Gold Coast City Council.

With early support from the Gold Coast Airport and Bendigo Bank, the not-for-profit organisation is looking to build the wildlife hospital and conservation research centre on existing land under its 'live green' partnership program. Live in Green is the sanctuary's conservation and sustainability partnership program.

The new facility will allow veterinary staff to better treat the 4000 native Australian species brought in by the public each year. The ongoing cost to run the clinic and provide the community with a free service, costs around $450,000 each year.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary CEO, Michelle Monsour says the program has been developed to allow corporate partners to share in the growth of the sanctuary and become 'green leaders in their own right.'

"Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is forging new partnerships with companies, government and communities prepared to make a commitment to a sustainable future," says Monsour.
