MORE than 240 women have attended 12 workshops across the State aimed at teaching workplace negotiation skills.

Minister for Women Margaret Keech says the women who attended the free sessions are now more confident when asking for better working conditions and a step closer to 'receiving a fair-go' at work.

"Women have the right to fair pay, working conditions and work-life balance. These workshops provided hands-on negotiation skills training to help women achieve this," says Keech.

"Since the introduction of WorkChoices, it's more important than ever for women to have these skills. More than three out of five AWAs abolish penalty rates and more than four out of five reduce or remove overtime pay. Women signing an Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA) with their employer need to know how to bargain for their pay and conditions."

The workshops were hosted by the Queensland Government Office for Women in conjunction with the Queensland Working Women's service.
