Extra jobs for Robina call centre

CALL centre operator Excelior says jobs will be created at its Robina call centre after it took over the customer contact operation from AAPT.

Excelior all has retained all 350 staff at the Robina centre in the same roles and under the same conditions. Excelior chief executive officer Greg Scott says he expects staff levels to increase as the business expands.

"We have the capacity to employ more staff and we will look at that once we have assisted AAPT with their transition," he says.

"This is a great outcome for everyone involved, especially all the employees at the Robina centre. The whole transition process - since our signing of a Heads of Agreement with AAPT in early February - has been extremely smooth."

Reluctant to confirm numbers, Mr Scott says the company could employ up to 50 new staff at the 350-seat call centre.

"As we continue to service the needs of AAPT until the end of the year, we are excited by the opportunities to further expand the Excelior business in the long term by leveraging off the considerable expertise available in the Robina centre," he says.

"As a 100 per cent Australian-owned organisation, we are committed to investing in Australia - including in high-growth areas such as Robina - and look forward to a long and successful working relationship with both the community and government."

Robina is a major acquisition for the Excelior network. It now extends to more than 50 sites in Australia and New Zealand with more than 2800 staff. Under the agreement with AAPT, Excelior will service AAPT until December, as AAPT focuses on a new contact centre in Sydney.

AAPT chief executive officer Paul Broad says ensuring jobs at the Robina call centre were safe was critical to negotiations.

"We're pleased to hand over the reins to Excelior," he says.
