Jun, 2007

EXPORTERS from across the State are being encouraged to throw their products into the ring for the 2007 Premier of Queensland's Export Awards.

A search for the state's most innovative and successful exporters is under way for the 18th annual awards.

"The awards are the Government's way of recognising the achievements of Queensland's top exporters - those smart, innovative businesses that have taken on the world," says Deputy Premier Anna Bligh.

"In 2005-06, we led Australia as the fastest-growing exporter of goods and further consolidated our position as Australia's second-largest goods exporter.

"Queensland's goods exports delivered another stellar performance last financial year, rising 34.2 per cent to $35.4 billion - a new record."

The award categories are: Education; Agribusiness; Arts, Entertainment and Design; Information and Communication Technology; Large Advanced Manufacturer ($30 million plus); Minerals and Energy; Services; Small to Medium Manufacturer ($0-$30 million); Small Business Award ($0-$5 million); Sports, Events and Tourism; Emerging Exporter.

Entrants are being sought for the inaugural Richard Joel Young Export Entrepreneur Award and there will be two extra categories this year - the Dermot McManus Award and Premier of Queensland's Special Award. The State's Exporter of the Year Award will be chosen from the winners of all categories.

Winners will be announced at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on October 25. All State winners automatically become finalists in the Australian Export Awards.

The awards are sponsored by Austrade, Australia TradeCoast, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Primary Industries and Fisheries Department, Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, HSBC, Pacific Film and Television Commission, Port of Brisbane Corporation, QMI Solutions, Santos and

The Courier-Mail.
