Work experience via the web

May, 2007

A unique 'match making' service that connects businesses with potential employees and students has burst out of the blocks with almost 1000 students and more than 500 businesses participating.

GetExperience.com.au is an online service, providing employers with a solution to recruiting by facilitating access to a stable of skilled graduates, post-graduates and students seeking experience in a variety of fields. Students can access the site for free and upload their resumes detailing their tertiary qualifications and the 'experience' they are seeking.

Managing director Viktor Khedri says the business emerged following discussions with students, career specialists, tertiary faculty heads, government agencies, employers and Qld Chamber of Commerce about the lack of skilled staff and the difficulty of finding students for voluntary work experience or projects.

"GetExperience.com.au will match a student with a potential employer for voluntary projects, paid placements or internships depending on the company's requirements," explains Mr Khedri.

"The students provide the company with a quick solution to a staff skill or labour shortage whilst gaining valuable industry knowledge and an opportunity to build key contacts."

The online service provider has a database of students within numerous disciplines including accounting, legal, HR, marketing, IT and graphic design.

"Unlike a recruitment firm that advertises job availability, we sort of reverse the process and match make the student or potential employee with the company," says Mr Khedri.

"The GetExperience website has been designed for simple and secure interaction between companies and students and significantly reduces lengthy recruiting processes, lessens the stress on the student and employer and minimises HR costs."

Businesses are not required to pay students or provide superannuation benefits unless the position is classified as employment. Volunteer Get Experience students are covered by voluntary work insurance via the tertiary institutions.
