TWO Gold Coast developments have won Urban Development Institute of Australia national awards for excellence.

Queensland projects won three of the seven award categories at a recent ceremony in Perth.

Gold Coast master-planned community Varsity Lakes was awarded the UDIA president's award, The EcoVillage at Currumbin won the environmental excellence category and Viridian Noosa was judged best medium density development.

UDIA (Qld) president Brent Hailey says the success of local entrants at the awards reflects the quality of development in south-east Queensland.

"The national awards provide an impartial bench-marking process for Australia's top developers," he says.

"The winning projects can quite rightfully lay claim to being officially the best of their type in Australia."
